It was 2005, in a decent house on a military base in North Carolina, with my then-wife when things started getting weird for me. I had been married for about 2 1/2 years at this point. Things were not at there best between her and I. There were a number of things that happened in this house in the 2 years I was there.

I’ll start at the beginning.

Summer 2005: I had just returned from a tour in Afghanistan. I was getting ready to leave out again the following month. The day I arrived home from tour #1, both were talking. She was telling me about something strange that happened a few times while I was gone:

About once a week, she would be woken up from a deep sleep, in a cold sweat. The bedroom was completely dark with the exception of moonlight pouring in through the window. I guess so she says, it would be really cold in certain “spots” around her. Only a small area on her body would feel it. Like a chill to the bone. At any rate, she says she could see a silhouette of a ghost, of a person, of average seeming build, maybe just under 6 ft. tall standing next to the bed, with its arm above its head, as if it’s about to strike her with something. She would pull the covers over her head and that would be it.

When she told me this, I was very skeptical of it, telling her that she was probably dreaming. Not that I never believed in this sort of thing, but why haunt her, I wondered…?

Cut to a few days later, I was just getting out of bed and we were on our way to the store to grab some groceries. I went to the downstairs bathroom and it reeked. Just absolutely stunk. “Light a candle next time, will ya?” I said somewhat jokingly. She replied back “I haven’t been to the bathroom yet. Probably the plumbing.” So, I called the plumber. Flushed the toilet a few times, sprayed half a can of air freshener and lit a candle before leaving.

We get home an hour later and I had completely forgotten about this smell until I walked in the door of the house. Now, the downstairs bathroom is there as you walk in the house. I immediately remembered the smell from earlier and went in the bathroom to check it out. Maybe it was backed up? At this point, I didn’t even want to believe it was anything else. I had read and heard all the stories. Cold, bad odors etc are connected to paranormal activity.

I went in the bathroom, the candle was still lit, but the stench of whatever was in there overpowered it. I tried air freshener, but that seemed to just make things worse. We put the food in the kitchen and left. I called my friend up who had mentioned before having some experience in the paranormal. I told him what was going on, went to his house and we had dinner there. He then went back to my place with me and walked around my house. The bathroom and bedroom, according to him, were very cold and something was in there, that didn’t like us. Particularly, my wife. This is of course, not a professional opinion. Just my friends, who could have been humoring me. I’m still unsure to this day. But I do definitely believe something was there.

The second night, we were laying in bed asleep already. It was past midnight and she woke up. She shook me and told me that person was there. Right next to her. She was scared. I just wanted to sleep and mumbled something along the lines of “It’s just a bad dream. Go back to sleep.” I put a what-was-to-be comforting arm around her and felt something strange. Just a dot, or a spot, of cold that started in the in the middle of my hand. As I moved my arm around her, the spot stayed in one spot, her chest area. That being, its “gaze” never shifted from the one area on her chest. It was a piercing cold. I didn’t look up because I didn’t want to see it. But I knew she wasn’t just having a bad dream. I pulled her in and told her it was going to be ok.

I left two weeks later. She was gone when I got home the next time, so I have no idea how things were while she was there after I left. There’s more than I’ll put in a different thread if anyone is interested in hearing that. I know this one is kind of long, but the two stories kind of went together. At least, in my experience, I felt I needed to connect them.

Thank you

————————————————————————–

This happened in January 2006. Taking place less than 2 weeks after my return from that second tour overseas. My wife had left. She took practically everything with her. The only she had left me in the living room, where all this happens, was a computer desk, no chair, no computer. Tv. PS2. And a loveseat. She took the couch and matching chair.

One night, around I’d say 2 in the AM EST, I’m playing a video game and talking to a friend. We’re discussing my separation and my coming home for vacation a month and a half(-ish) from this time. Anyway, I remember the living room where I was sitting began to get somewhat cold. I had turned the heat up to where the room should be just sitting above 72 degrees F. I ended up just bundling up in a blanket, half listening to my friend talk about something or another while getting lost in the game and my starting to doze off.

At this point in where I was, I just started living in my living room. Sleeping on the couch, eating on the couch… everything on the couch. I had totally forgotten about that bedroom incident. Well, let it escape my mind at least. But I always just felt really uncomfortable upstairs. The only time I went up there was to shower, and I made them as quick as possible. I always felt the need to keep as many lights on as possible and lock the bathroom door behind me.

Anyway, since I was sleeping on the couch, I grabbed my blanket, clicked off the light and talked to my friend for a few more minutes before finally just getting off the phone to sleep. We said our goodbyes, talk to you laters and so on. I hang up the phone. The room now: utter dark. Complete blackness. What seems to be absolute silence. It was eerie, and I remember feeling like it was a vacuum or something…. then. What broke the silence was a creak next to the door, maybe 10-15 ft from where I was laying down. Right at the stairwell… I concentrated and heard nothing. But then, a deafening scream, that lasted for no longer than maybe 5 seconds, rang out from the stairwell. I heard dishes lightly rattle in the kitchen. It was the most primal, painful thing I had ever heard in my entire life. And then, just like that, it was quiet again. There were no more creaks. No sounds at all. Just my quiet, short breaths and the sound of my heartbeat in my ears.

Some people say that I was probably dreaming that, but I’ve never been that terrified from a dream. I had only been off the phone in the dark for maybe 2 minutes, was still staring off and looking at the shapes that the moonlight formed on my ceiling. I was very much awake. I did not move for the rest of that night. Just laid there thinking, “there’s no way out. It’s blocking the door.” I fought the urge to get up for any reason. Eventually, after listening to the silence for what seemed 2 or 3 eternities, I fell asleep and woke up just fine. It’s the only time I heard that. I decided to move out sooner than I had previously intended to, however.

So, a little over a year ago, I posted a couple of different things that happened to me back in 2005. There were a couple of things that happened between here and there, that I never got around to posting too. Anyway, here I am. Over a year later in the hopes that someone can help me because something similar has recently happened.

So, while the other stories took place in NC, this all happened in MD. It happened about a week or two before Halloween. And all of this was very close together, and it all happened at my girlfriend’s house in Baltimore, Arbutus area for the locals. Her mom and younger brother have been living with her for almost a year now until her mom can get back on her feet due to some unrelated, personal issues. I’m only bringing this particular thing up, in case someone may find it relevant. Her brother is 14. Mom, she’s over 50, if not right at 50. Now… After dinner one night, we were all sitting around the table talking. I excused myself to go shower. I have to get up at 4:30 in the morning, and generally just shower the night before work so I’m not in a groggy rush. So, I’m in the shower and there, doing whatever it is they do as far as I know. I remember, and never will forget probably, the feeling of something tap me on the shoulder. It didn’t necessarily feel like a finger. I pushed it out of my head almost immediately thinking I had brushed the wall or a towel or something. And that was it. That was all that happened in there. I got out, dried off and put on some clothes and left the bathroom. It was quiet in the house. No chatter, no tv, and no video games. I just assumed everyone went to bed and headed upstairs to the attic bedroom my girlfriend sleeps in. It was dark, minus the flickery light that turned out to be a bunch of candles in the middle of the floor. My girlfriend, and her mother playing with an Ouija board. They asked if I wanted to play, and I simply refused. Part of me wanted to leave because those things make me uncomfortable as it is. But I just laid down on the bed and tried to sleep. Mostly watching them. Mostly feeling uncomfortable whenever one of them giggled about it, or laughed and said it was stupid, which bothered me quite a bit. They were done when, after the second or third try, mom turned the disc, or whatever it’s called, upside down and said she was done. They put it away and that was that. It dawned on me later that whatever I felt in the shower, would have happened about the time they started with their ouija seances…

So, a few nights later, I’m back at her house. I haven’t heard of anything and honestly put the whole thing out of my head. That night, I woke up, at almost the exact same time she did. I looked at her, while she looked forward to the head of the bed and immediately screamed. And not like a jumpy, something at the movies jumped out at me scream. Pure terror. I pulled her close and cradled her, and didn’t see or notice anything. I turned on the light. Nothing was there. What she described to me was so horrifyingly familiar. She said, at the head of the bed, not 3 feet away, stood a figure. Not actually standing though. More like, bending over and reaching out for her. She told me two days later what actually woke her up as she heard something talking in the room, that said in a whisper “what should we do with her?” That’s when she looked up and everything happens. I did make a mental note that it was after 3 o’clock. The only reason I noted it is because after calming her down, realizing I had less than an hour until I had to go to work. She got up and left when I left. The reason I say this one, in particular, is horrifyingly familiar and wanted me to come to you with this in the hopes someone may be able to help me figure something out, is if you’ll read the story at the top “2005”, it’s almost the same thing.

Now, I’m an atheist. I haven’t prayed in years. And my girlfriend knows this. I’m not against it. I’ll pray along to be respectful if the family is praying at dinner, or at a funeral. But one night, she woke me up shaking. Telling me that the room didn’t feel right. And she was scared. She asked me to pray with her. Like, she wanted me to say a prayer for protection. I didn’t know how to react, but this was extremely out of the ordinary for her. So I went with it. And after a minute of reaching into the back of my head for things to say, she started breathing slower. Calmer. She let me finish, then thanked me and said: “I think it worked”. She laid down and eventually, we both fell asleep.

The only things other than little squeaks and creaks, which could honestly just be the house being a house and making house noises, was when she was downstairs trying to sleep I guess. She didn’t sleep in her room for a while unless I was there, and as I just recently moved to the night shift, that’s been a lot. Anyway, she said she heard her brother upstairs leaning in the chair, which he does while he plays on his laptop. So she sends him a text. A simple “stop leaning”. Not a minute later, the text comes back and says “I’m in bed”. That’s all I know or have heard for right now. I’ve spent fewer nights there since all that happened. Her mom burned sage in the room, or whatever the cleansing plant is (sage right?). Said some prayers. And I’m hoping that’s it.
